My SD is spoiled, living in central NJ where she proclaims she is "bored" and "where are we gonna go today".  She has a mall and at least 10 mini malls 10 minutes from where she lives.  Therefore, she has no reason to have any creative ideas about how to entertain herself.

Spending all of my childhood free time in the Poconos, I was lucky to have my cousins and endless kids around.  Remember, these were the days before internet, and the Poconos did not have cable tv until maybe the early '90's.  We could not simply say to our parents, "I'm bored." unless we wanted chores handed to us.  Chuckie Cheese and any gameroom other than the local one (nothing to write home about) were not an option.  Malls were gone to about 3-4x a year, for school shopping, and the local mall was not much to speak of.  The Crossings (outlet malls) were not in existance, or nothing to brag about until after I moved away.  I remember us actually sticking tissues in our noses to make us sneeze because we were that bored and it was too cold out with no snow.

This "menial" existance sucked by today's standards, but at least I have an edge: creativity and being able to find fun with NOTHING around.
